Class A Boys

100 Meter Dash
South Harrison's Freddy Canary turned in a dominant performance, taking down the field by over 0.6 seconds with a superb 10.68 time that is a new State Record and is the 7th Best All-Time Class A-AA State Meet Performance and the Best All-Time Class A-AA State Meet Performance. Midland Trail's Thomas Ferris just held off Pendleton's Daniel Mullenax for 2nd 11.32 to 11.33. Only Clay-Battelle's Nathan Swaniger was under 11.70 among the rest of the field with his 11.53. One of my predicted placers False Started in the trials.
RunWV's Current Score: 4 of 6.

200 Meter Dash
South Harrison's Freddy Canary was again dominant, taking the win in 21.58 while no one else was under 23.20. While the 21.58 is a smoking fast time, he went 21.50 in the trials, which is the new State Record and the 4th Best All-Time State Meet Performance and the Best All-Time Class A-AA State Meet Performance. St. Marys' Zac Long just edged past Madonna's Tavon Jeter for 2nd, 23.21 to 23.27. No one else was under 23.70 as the heat of the weekend has started to wear on people. Only 5 went under 24 seconds. 2 of my predicted placers did not compete in the event.
RunWV's Current Score: 8 of 12.

400 Meter Dash
If there was a spot on the track that you thought South Harrison's Freddy Canary might be vulnerable, this would have been it. But no...not at all. Canary absolutely blew away the field, making up the stagger on everyone within the first 150 meters, and then really hitting the hammer down the homestretch to cross in a blistering 48:07, a new State Record and the 3rd Best All-Time State Meet Performance and the Best All-Time Class A-AA State Meet Performance. Pendleton's Daniel Mullenax made a late pass on St. Marys' Zac Long to take 2nd in 50.82. Long, who held fairly close to Canary through 300 meters, was 3rd in 50.89. St. Marys Will Billeter was the only other one to go under 52 seconds with his 51.20. One of my predicted placers did not compete.
RunWV's Current Score: 13 of 18.

800 Meter Run
St. Marys' Walker Hashman took the field out pretty quickly, but by the end of the 1st lap, Williamstown's Chase Uppole had moved into the lead, coming through in 59 seconds. Hashman was close behind with Ritchie's Jarett Allender in 3rd. Wahama's Travis Kearns had just moved into 4th. I think it was Richwood's Isaac Blake in 5th and Ritchie's Gabe Murphy in 6th. On the 2nd lap, Uppole extended his lead through the backstretch. Hashman remained in 2nd and Allender in 3rd, and Kearns remained in 4th. In the final 200, Uppole held off the late kick of Hashman for the title in 2:02.15. Hashman was at 2:02.57. Those two ended up a second and a half ahead of the rest of the field. Allender easily held the 3rd spot at 2:04.07. Kearns easily held the 4th spot in 2:05.66. Doddridge's Gage Smith moved up from 7th to 5th in the last 100 to finish in 2:06.50, getting by Pocahontas' Kyle Lester in the last few meters, 2:06.50 to 2:06.65. Everyone else ended up over 2 seconds back.
RunWV's Current Score: 16 of 24.

1600 Meter Run
Hyperaggression was the name of the game in this one as the entire field went out ridiculously quickly, with Doddridge's Hunter Riffle leading them through in 1:01. Charleston Catholic's Mathew Casey was in 2nd at 1:02. St. Marys' Brady Gorrell was in 3rd at 1:03 with that time matched by St. Marys' Walker Hashman in 4th, Doddridge's Trey Heaster in 5th, and Ravenswood's Blake Jarrell in 6th. Things didn't change dramatically in the 2nd lap as Riffle continued to push the pace, and Casey continued to stay just behind with Riffle coming through at 2:10 and Casey at 2:11. They had generated a good gap on the rest of the field. A pack of 6 came through nearly together at 2:17 with Gorrell at the front of that group in 3rd, Blake Jarrell in 4th, Trey Heaster in 5th, and Ravenswood's Bryce Jarrell in 6th. I'm just guessing on which Jarrell is which, by the way. On the 3rd lap, Riffle started pulling away from Casey. Riffle came through at 3:22 with Casey still in 2nd, but now 4 seconds back at 3:26. Blake Jarrell and Gorrell had started to get away from the chase pack at 3:29, with Jarrell in the 3rd spot and Gorrell the 4th. Bryce Jarrell was in 5th and I think it may have been Cameron's Ben Hart up to 6th. On the final lap, Riffle was not threatened, and he cruised in for the nearly 5 second victory in 4:32.97. Blake Jarrell, and then Gorrell, overtook Casey with just over 100 meters to go, andit was Gorrell who was able to win the kick to the finish in 4:37.80 to Blake Jarrell's 4:37.94. Casey stayed close in 4:38.88. Bryce Jarrell held off Hart for 5th in 4:40.74 to Hart's 4:41.43.
RunWV's Current Score: 21 of 30.

3200 Meter Run
Doddridge's Hunter Riffle took the field out quickly, taking the 1st lap in 1:06. That was matched by St. Marys' Brady Gorrell in 2nd. Ravenswood's Bryce Jarrell who had the sad misfortune to have his heel stepped on at the start and lost a shoe, was in 3rd at 1:07. Doddridge's Trey Heaster and Ravenswood's Blake Jarrell were also at 1:07 with Charleston Catholic's Mathew Casey in 6th at 1:08. Things stayed pretty close on the 2nd lap as the pace slowed. Riffle still lead at 2:19, and Gorrell was still right there with him at the same time. Bryce Jarrell and Blake Jarrell were close behind at 2:20. Heaster was in 5th at 2:22 with Casey matching that time in 6th. On the 3rd lap, the front two started to get more separation. Riffle and Gorrell came through at 3:32 with Riffle still holding a slim lead. Bryce Jarrell and Blake Jarrell continued in 3rd and 4th, respectively with both at 3:35. Heaster was in 5th at 3:40 with Casey still on his heels with the same time. At the midway point, Riffle had opened just a slight gap on Gorrell, coming through at 4:44 to Gorrell's 4:45. Bryce Jarrell and Blake Jarrell continued together at 4:52. Heaster and Casey were holding the other two spots at 5:01. On lap 5, Riffle expanded the gap over Gorrell to 2 seconds, 5:59 to 6:01 as the quickly early pace began to wear on everyone. Bryce Jarrell was remained in 3rd and Blake Jarrell in 4th at 6:12. Heaster and Casey continued to battle for 5th at 6:24. On lap 6, Riffle took firm control of the race, coming through at 7:16. Gorrell remained in 2nd at 7:22. Bryce Jarrell and Blake Jarrell continued to hold their spots at 7:33. Williamstown's Josh Chambers had moved into 5th at 7:48 with Casey in 6th at 7:49. Riffle continued to extend his lead on lap 7, taking it out to 10 seconds at 8:33 to Gorrell's 8:43. Bryce Jarrell and Blake Jarrell had control of their positions at 8:55. I think Chambers and Casey still held their spots at 9:14, but I've also recorded Madonna's Angelo Quatrocchi at 9:14 as well, and it's not on the video, so he might have been in a top 6 spot at this point. On the final lap, Riffle coasted home to the win in 9:49.08. Gorrell ran a solid last lap to get in under 10:00 with a 9:56.90. Bryce Jarrell outkicked Blake Jarrell for 3rd 10:10.17 to 10:10.67. Casey won the battle for 5th in 10:22.01, and Chambers held the 6th spot at 10:24.35.
RunWV's Current Score: 26 of 36.

110 Meter High Hurdles
Madonna's Tavon Jeter started to pull away from the field just before the halfway point and continued to pull away to the finish, taking the win in 15.02. Williamstown's Tim Wickham was 2nd in 15.55. Doddridge's Hunter Hayes edged out St. Marys' Cole Smith for 3rd, 15.76 to 15.82. No one else was under 16.50.
RunWV's Current Score: 32 of 42.

300 Meter Intermediate Hurdles
Paden City's Jacob Pierce took the lead coming off the next-to-last hurdle and pulled away to win in 40.61. Williamstown's Tim Wickham was 2nd in 41.09. Buffalo's Ian Parsons moved into 3rd position coming off the last hurdle, getting a 41.37. Williamstown's Bradey Fayad edged St. Marys' Zac Long for 4th, 41.52 to 41.53.
RunWV's Current Score: 37 of 48.

4x100 Meter Relay
The Williamstown unit of Donathan Taylor, Trenton Tallman, Jon Petty, and Dakota Hammer ran away from the field in a State Record time of 44.23. That was over 0.9 seconds ahead of 2nd place St. Marys, who held off Tyler Consolidated 45.14 to 45.18. Doddridge was the only other team under 46 seconds with a 45.82 in 4th. Webster and Moorefield just missed that mark with matching 46.02 times, with Webster getting the slightest edge from the 1st heat. One of my predicted placers suffered a dropped baton.
RunWV's Current Score: 42 of 54.

4x200 Meter Relay
The Magnolia group of Riley Nice, Hunter Partridge, Brooks Parsons, and Chase Street powered away from the field to take the win in 1:32.28. St. Marys and Williamstown had identical 1:33.27 times with St. Marys getting 2nd on the lean. Doddridge was over a second back in 1:34.60. Webster was the only other team under 1:36 with their 1:35.79.
RunWV's Current Score: 47 of 60.

4x400 Meter Relay
St. Marys had the lead by the end of the first leg with Magnolia 2nd and Williamstown 3rd and Pendleton 4th. On the 2nd leg, things remained much the same. St. Marys still led. Magnolia was still in 2nd. Williamstow was still in 3rd, just slightly ahead of Pocahontas, who had moved into 4th. Pendleton was in 5th. Those 5 were well ahead of the field. On leg 3, St. Marys continued to lead, but Williamstown had pulled into 2nd. Magnolia was in 3rd. Pocahontas was in 4th, and Pendleton remained in 5th. On the final leg, Magnolia made the pass on Williamston on the backstretch, and tried to make a run on St. Marys, but couldn't quite get there. The St. Marys group of Will Billeter, Brady Gorrell, Walker Hashman, and Zac Long took the win in 3:31.61. Magnolia was 2nd in 3:32.40. Williamstown held the 3rd spot in 3:33.67. Pocahontas was 4th in 3:34.54. Pendleton was 5th in 3:36.92. Ritchie took the 6th spot from the 1st heat in 3:37.30.
RunWV's Current Score: 53 of 66.

4x800 Meter Relay
Williamstown took out quickly, but had been reeled in by the end fo the first lap, and Pocahontas has the lead. But the end of the 1st leg, it was St. Marys that was in front in 2:04. Pocahontas was in 2nd at 2:05. I think it was Tucker in 3rd, Doddridge 4th, and Williamstown 5th at 2:06. Ritchie was in 6th at 2:07. On the 2nd leg, there was some shifting around, particularly on the 2nd lap. At the end of the leg, Doddridge had moved into the lead at 4:13. Ritchie was in 2nd, just a bit ahead of Williamstown with both at 4:14. St. Marys was in 4th at 4:17. It looks like it was maybe Tucker in 5th and Magnolia in 6th. More shifting occurred on the 3rd leg. After one lap, Ritchie, Williamstown and Doddridge were very close with St. Marys in striking distance. On the backstretch, Doddridge moved back into the lead. But Ritchie and Williamstown got back by down the homestretch. At the end of the leg, it was Ritchie with a slight lead over Williamstown with both at 6:20. Doddridge was in 3rd at 6:22. St. Marys remained in 4th. Pocahontas had come back up to 5th. , and I think it was Tucker in 6th. On the final leg, the front three were out quickly. at 300 meters, Williamstown moved to the front. Heading into the final lap Doddridge moved to the front. With 300 to go, Williamstown moved back to the front. Then Ritchie made the pass on Doddridge. Down the backstretch, Williasmtown and Ritchie began to pull away from Doddridge, and Williamstown pulled away from Ritchie down the homestretch on the 1:58 leg from Chase Uppole to give the foursome of Tom Bobbitt, Jon Petty, Joshua Chambers, and Chase Uppole the win in 8:19.64. Ritchie held the 2nd spot at 8:23.72. Doddridge was solidly 3rd in 8:25.83. St. Marys outbattled Pocahontas for 4th, 8:28.58 to 8:30.02. Tucker held onto 5th in 8:40.09.
RunWV's Current Score: 58 of 72.

Shuttle Hurdle Relay
The Williamstown unit of Bradey Fayad, Kyler Sutton, Trevor Hoosier, and Tim Wickham led pretty much the entire race and ended up winning by over a second and was the only team to go under 60 seconds with their 59.24. Doddridge was not threatened for 2nd in 1:00.31. St. Marys was 3rd in 1:01.01. Everyone else was over 1:03.50.
RunWV's Current Score: 62 of 78.

High Jump
Doddridge's Chase Dunaway was the only jumper in the field able to clear 6'0 in taking the title. The remaining placers all cleared 5'10 with Ritchie's Travis Pickering and Clay-Battelle's Gunner Brummage getting the tie for 2nd, Union's Clayton Burdock getting 4th, and Moorefield's Douglas Zirk and Hundred's Danny Stewart getting the tie for 5th.
RunWV's Current Score: 67 of 84.

Pole Vault
Tyler Consolidated's Jarett LeMasters and Williamstown's Dakota Hammer both cleared 13'0 with LeMasters getting the win and Hammer the runner-up spot. The remaining placers all cleared 12'0 with South Harrison's Adam Bennett getting 2nd, Tyler Consolidated's Levi Morgan and Ritchie's Jeremy Hilkey getting the tie for 4th, and Doddridge's Dawson Evans taking 6th.
RunWV's Current Score: 72 of 90.

Summers County's Jacob McBride and Madonna's Tavon Jeter both leaped 20'1.25 with McBride getting 4th on the tie-breaker. One of my predicted placers did not jump.
RunWV's Current Score: 77 of 96.

Shot Put
St. Marys' Jacob Northrup hadn't been throwing well late in the season, but he came up big with a 50'02.75 toss to win it by over a foot. Moorefield's Brock Dolly was 2nd with 48'11.25. Williamstown's Trevor Hoosier was 3rd with a 47'6.75. Tucker's Brody Strawderman also threw over 47'0 in 4th with a 47'3.75. Williamstown's Sam Harris was 5th with a 46'8.25. No one else was over 44'0. This was the difference making event for St. Marys in taking the team title.
RunWV's Current Score: 81 of 102.

Discus
St. Marys' Jacob Northrup added the discus title to his stellar weekend with a long toss of 158'8. Pocahontas' Ryan Irvine threw 152'4 for 2nd. Williamstown's Trevor Hoosier was 3rd with 151'1. Tucker's Brody Strawderman gave us four over 150'0 with his toss of 150'8. Only Buffalo's Nick Parsons and St. Marys' Clayton Studer were over 131'0 among the rest of the field with their throws of 137'0 and 135'8, respectively.
RunWV's Current Score: 86 of 108.

The final score of 86 of 108 means that 79.6 % of the people picked to place did indeed place. Meh...I don't like to be under 80%. But it's even worse than that once you look at the long list below. Congratulations to those that proved me wrong.
